Bob Hauk was the commissioner and a major figure of the United States Police Force.

Biography[]

During World War III, Hauk served with Special Forces Unit Texas Thunder.

1997[]

At Liberty Island Security Control, Hauk was informed by Captain Rehme that a nearby, unidentified jet was facing trouble. In the control room, it was soon learned that the jet was Air Force One, which carried the President John Harker (himself holding a tape concerning nuclear fusion). It had been hijacked by the National Liberation Front of America, who planned to crash the plane into the New York Maximum Security Penitentiary. The group was successful, but a pod containing the President was ejected from the jet as it crashed.

Hauk rounded up a team to retrieve the President within the prison's walls but found the pod empty. They encountered the prisoner Romero, who told them the President would be killed if they harmed Romero or did not leave within thirty seconds. Hauk attempted to compromise, but Romero presented the President's severed finger, prompting the police to leave.

Hauk then planned to send in the recently arrested S.D. "Snake" Plissken to rescue the President in exchange for a pardon from his crimes, a plan which was promptly approved by the Vice President. Hauk met with Plissken, who agreed to infiltrate the prison and retrieve the President within twenty-four hours. To ensure that Plissken would perform his task, Hauk had him injected with microscopic capsules that would dissolve once the set time had elapsed, revealing explosives that would kill him.

Hauk stayed in contact with Plissken, who discovered that the President's vital signs bracelet had been placed on a drunk. He commanded Plissken to continue his mission and remained in contact until Plissken's radio was broken.

With no apparent activity from Plissken or within the walls, the Secretary of State ordered the USPF to infiltrate the prison and retrieve the President. Hauk, however, stalled this operation, soon being informed by Rehme that Plissken had activated his tracer.

Hauk awaited Plissken at Station 19, where he successfully brought the President with only moments to spare. Hauk demanded the President's tape before the explosives were deactivated. However, Plissken instead gave him a tape of "Bandstand Boogie."

As the President prepared his speech, Hauk offered Snake a job, but Snake coldly dismissed the idea, simply telling Hauk, "The name's Plissken."

Trivia[]

  • John Carpenter named the character after one of his high school math teachers.
  • In Coleman Luck's 1987 Escape from L.A. script, Hauk (misspelled Houk) is a prominent character. However, this script was ultimately not used, and the character was not brought back, likely due to Lee Van Cleef's death in 1989.
